Project Inform hires new PrEP navigator for expanding PleasePrEPMe.org

Project Inform is very pleased to announce the hiring of Charlie Romero as the new PrEP Navigator for PleasePrEPMe.org, a collaboration of Project Inform and HIVE. Charlie started January 23 and will be responsible for the daily operations of assisting Californians access PrEP through PleasePrEPMe’s expanded online services.

PleasePrEPMe.org was started by HIVE (hiveonline.org) in 2015 as a search engine within California to identify providers who were interested or experienced in prescribing PrEP, or Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis. PrEP was approved by the FDA in 2012 as a method for preventing HIV infection by taking a daily pill along with regular medical visits.

In addition to managing the new online chat, phone, email and text services, Charlie will be responsible for regular communications with PrEP navigators throughout the state, supporting their local efforts and advocating with states advocates for needed changes in health care to access PrEP.

“Charlie’s previous PrEP navigation experience at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles supporting adolescents understand what PrEP is and how to get and stay on the prescription will be invaluable to our expanding online presence,” said Alan McCord, Director of Education. “We’re very glad to have him join our staff and launch this exciting new educational resource within the state.”

The launch of PleasePrEPMe’s expanded services is expected towards the beginning of March.
