Become a hotline operator

Sometimes talking to people about their health, especially their concerns about HIV/AIDS, can be challenging. You can help make a difference in a caller's life by becoming an operator on Project Inform's toll-free National HIV/AIDS Treatment Hotline. Operators answer over 10,000 calls each year and are committed to empowering callers to take steps to actively participate in their own health care and treatment decisions.

You will be able to help callers obtain written treatment information and health charting tools, referrals to HIV care and social services, and other practical assistance issues. In addition, all operators have access to ongoing education and support to maintain their knowledge about HIV treatment.

Individuals who are interested in becoming an operator must attend a training and commit to one 3-hour shift a week for six months. Shifts occur Monday–Friday 10am–4pm, in Project Inform's San Francisco office. Operators must live in the San Francisco/Bay Area to answer calls in the hotline office.

Project Inform encourages women, people of color, lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgenders and individuals with disabilities, including HIV-related disabilities, to participate in this and all Project Inform activities.

To become a volunteer operator, please fill out the volunteer form and be sure to check the "hotline" box. Project Inform will contact you to further talk about your interests. For more information, contact at 415-558-8669 x215.
