Some good news for people on ADAP waiting lists

posts_harborpathIn a statement issued today by NASTAD, the HIV drug assistance program run by Welvista will transition to a new organization called HarborPath effective May 6, 2013. The Welvista program currently helps uninsured and under-insured individuals ineligible for ADAP or on ADAP waiting lists get their meds, but operates in less than half the states. However, the new service at HarborPath will be able to assist people in all 50 states.

The new service provides a central portal that allows uninsured people to sign up for free HIV medications and—for those who qualify—receive their meds through a mail-order pharmacy. You can access the Common Patient Assistance Program application form at www.harborpath.org.

Several pharmaceutical companies already participate through Welvista and will provide the same Patient Assistance Programs (PAPs) at HarborPath: AbbVie, Gilead Sciences, Janssen Therapeutics, Merck & Co., and ViiV Healthcare. NASTAD and HarborPath will continue to work with Bristol-Myers Squibb and Boehringer Ingelheim to hopefully include their medications in the HarborPath portfolio to serve a wider community of people with HIV.
