On May 29th, Project Inform held a webinar to share the results of a Think Tank held in November 2012 to develop policies and procedures to guide the use of HIV laboratory data for the purpose of engaging or re-engaging HIV-positive people in health care. The Think Tank also resulted in recommendations for meaningful engagement between departments of public health and surveillance teams and other stakeholders and also resulted in the development a consensus statement affirming the potential value of these programs to improve the health and lives of people living with HIV. A report from the Think Tank may be found here.
The webinar featured speakers from Project Inform as well as:
- Jane Herwehe, Project Director of the Louisiana State University HCSD, who helped found the nation’s first electronic data exchange between the public health department and a health care system for HIV care linkage and retention;
- Doctor Julia Dombrowski, Deputy Director for Clinical Services at Public Health Seattle, who runs one of the most consumer-friendly direct contact programs in the country; and
- Walt Senterfitt, founder of the HIV Prevention Justice Alliance and a long time HIV and social justice activist.
