Applying for drug coverage from pharmaceutical PAPs just got easier

In a move to simplify the enrollment process for drug company Patient Assistance Programs (PAPs), the US government, pharmaceutical industry and community leaders have developed a single common application form. The seven companies include Abbott Laboratories, Boehringer Ingelheim, Bristol-Myers Squibb , Gilead Sciences, Johnson & Johnson (Janssen Therapeutics), Merck and ViiV Healthcare.

Up to now, uninsured individuals who relied on PAPs to pay for their HIV meds had to apply separately to each manufacturer for the various drugs in their regimens. As of September 12, 2012, this process changes to one 3-page application.

This single form now makes it an easier process for case managers, medical providers and people with HIV to ensure their medications are covered. Go online for a copy of the new application form. For a list of drug company PAPs, go to the Fair Pricing Coalition.
