Dear California Activist,
Can you call Governor Brown today and ask him to sign AB1461 and SB961 today?
PLEASE CALL (916) 445-2841 and tell the Governor’s staff that you support the important reforms to the insurance market that will ensure that health insurance will be there for those who need it, when they need it.
We need your help to make health reform real in California!
This past week, California got national attention (with a front-page article in the New York Times) about its leading efforts to maximize the benefits of the Affordable Care Act for our state. Thank you for your past help in getting California to take this leadership position—but there’s more to do.
As part of this effort, the California legislature has passed a dozen bills to put in place the new consumer protections and otherwise implement health reform, so the state is ready in 2014 to take advantage of the new benefits.
For example, the Affordable Care Act (what some call “Obamacare”) ensures that individuals can no longer be denied insurance or be discriminated against if they have pre-existing conditions and stops insurance companies from cutting off benefits for those in need by imposing lifetime or annual limits on coverage. But in order for protections like this to be enforced, this language needs to be written into state law.
Two bills, AB1461 and SB961, would ban pre-existing condition denials and make these important reforms to the individual health insurance market in California. Both bills have already been passed by the California Legislature and now we need your help to cross the finish line, we need to urge the Governor to sign these bills into law.
Some insurers are opposing these bills, and seeking a veto which would delay the work of implementing health reform in California. We can’t let the insurance industry help put our adoption of the Affordable Care Act at risk.

PLEASE CALL (916) 445-2841 and tell the Governor’s staff that you support the important reforms to the insurance market that will ensure that health insurance will be there for those who need it, when they need it.
We need all the bills—to implement health reform, to set strong standards for “essential benefits,” to better inform people about their new coverage options—to be signed.
Would you rather send the Governor a note? You can click here to complete a webform on the Governor’s website, or you can fax a note to (916) 558-3160.
We are running out of time. Less than 2 weeks remain to get the Governor to sign this important legislation. We need your help to help make quality, affordable health care a reality in California. Two years ago, your advocacy helped make the Affordable Care Act possible, please help make it a reality today.
