partners negotiate new drug co-pay assistance programs for people living with HIV

Newly instituted industry co-pay assistance programs can help many privately insured individuals with high co-payments on their HIV drugs. Project Inform and other FPC members have been working with seven companies to provide individuals with this resource to help cover their drug expenses.  READ MORE Read more.

Smoking nearly triples the risk of death in people living with HIV.

Data from the five-year FRAM study showed that current smoking, as well as older age, significantly increase the risk of death. In fact, there was a nearly three-fold risk of death from smoking-related causes.  READ MORE Read more.

Data from the D:A:D study at CROI 2009 in Montreal, Canada, showed that factors which people can change and influence nearly double the risk of non-AIDS death. These medical and lifestyle issues include smoking, high blood pressure and diabetes.  READ MORE Read more.

Indicators about hepatitis C co-infection among HIV-positive gay men concern Project Inform.

HCV infections occur largely as a result of injection drug use, or other direct blood-to-contact. Increasingly, there is evidence that HCV transmission may be occurring in much the same manner as HIV transmission, which may be related to a more rapid progression to liver disease and/or AIDS.  READ MORE Read more.

CROI 2009 presented a good deal of research data on pre-exposure prevention, in both humans and animals.
