PI ACTION ALERT:
Last Chance to Get More Money for Ryan White
CARE Act in FY ’07. Call Your Two Senators Today!
February 6, 2007
Congress is close to finishing work on the Fiscal Year 2007 "Joint
Resolution", which includes funding for the Ryan White CARE
Act. Debate, and a possible vote, is expected this week.
Last week, the House of Representatives approved its version of
the resolution. It contains a badly needed increase of around $75
million for Title II of the CARE Act. This money will go to all
states for primary care, support services, and/or for their AIDS
Drug Assistance Program (ADAP).
However, in order for the CARE Act to work, all Titles need increased
funding. As one example, Title I—which funds the hardest hit
cities in the country—needs more money to fund the five cities
that recently became eligible when the CARE Act was reauthorized.
>We have one more chance to get more money for this lifesaving
program. The Senate is expected to vote soon on its version of the
joint resolution. Your Senators can insist on these badly needed
increases. Please take a few minutes and urge them to support full
funding for the CARE Act!
How you can help
Call your two U.S. Senators immediately in their Washington, DC
office. Tell whoever answers the phone:
"My name is ___________ and I live in (city/state).
I urge Senator ___________ to support full funding for all Titles
of the Ryan White CARE Act in the final Fiscal Year 2007 appropriations
joint resolution. I strongly support the increase the House gave
to Title II, but for the CARE Act to work, all programs need more
money. I hope the Senator will do everything in his/her power to
fight for care and treatment for low-income people with HIV/AIDS."
You can call your Senators toll-free at 1-800-614-2803. Ask to
be connected to your Senator's office. Thank you for taking the
time to make a difference!
