PI ACTION ALERT:
Support Amendment to Increase Health Budget!
March 13, 2006
This week, Senators Arlen Specter (R-PA) and Tom Harkin (D-IA)
will offer an amendment to the Senate Budget Resolution that would
increase overall funding for health and education programs by $7
billion in the Fiscal Year 2007 appropriations bill.
Many vital health care programs, such as the Ryan White CARE Act,
have suffered from inadequate funding, mandatory across-the-board
cuts, and outright reductions. This amendment would help restore
funding for many of these programs. It would be a powerful statement
against the President's continuing attack on health care and provide
some badly needed relief to programs that are struggling to meet
the needs of those they serve.
Please take a minute to urge both your Senators to support this
bipartisan amendment!
How you can help:
This amendment will be considered in the next few days.
Call your two U.S. Senators in their Washington, DC offices right
now. Tell whoever answers the phone:
"My name is _______________ and I live in (your
state). I urge Senator________________ to vote for the Specter/Harkin
amendment to increase funding for health programs in the Senate
Budget Resolution. Many health programs that serve people with HIV/AIDS
have suffered from years of inadequate funding and need this help."
You can call your Senators toll-free at 1-800-426-8073. If that
