Help our next President lead the world on HIV/AIDS
A group of HIV/AIDS advocacy organizations, including Project
Inform, has developed “AIDSVote”, a platform of domestic
and global HIV/AIDS policy recommendations to educate presidential
candidates and voters of what is needed to make progress against
the pandemic. This effort was launched in early December, and more
than 100 organizations and nearly 1000 individuals have endorsed
the platform.
The AIDSVote website, www.aidsvote.org, includes the full platform,
and will post candidate responses to the AIDSVote questionnaire
in the new year.
You can be a part of this national effort to ensure that all candidates
for the White House know that we expect them to make HIV/AIDS a
key part of their agenda. Please go to AIDSVote today and endorse
the platform!
What you can do:
Go to www.aidsvote.org.
Individuals and organizations are encouraged to endorse the platform.
When you make your endorsement, you will be able to send a personal
message directly to the announced Democratic and Republican candidates.
Non-Profits Can and Should Endorse the Platform: Non-profit organizations
play an important role in educating candidates on critical issues
during election seasons. Federal law allows all tax-exempt, 501(c)
3 organizations to engage in election-related activities including
voter education, voter registration, get-out-the-vote, and candidate
education. These activities must be nonpartisan and directed to
all candidates from all parties. Tax-exempt organizations may not
link their efforts to a specific party nor endorse candidates. For
more information on non-profit advocacy, visit the Alliance for
Justice at www.afj.org.
Spread the word! Please help us get thousands of endorsements from
individuals and organizations around the country! You can include
AIDSVote in your newsletters, on your email signature, and other
communications with colleagues and friends. Urge everyone you know
to sign on! Bring copies of the platform to meetings or get-togethers,
collect names, and offer to sign people up yourself.
Together, we can refocus our political leaders’ attention
on HIV and AIDS.
