PI Action alerts & updates ... 1997

April 13-15, 1997
Washington, DC

Join hundreds of advocates from across the country to educate your federal elected officials about the need for increased funding for HIV/AIDS care, treatment, research, prevention, and housing programs.

After a half-day briefing on key issues and training on effective lobbying, you will spend two days on Capitol Hill meeting with your representatives and/or their staff to tell your story about how the epidemic has impacted your life and their district. These face-to-face meetings are one of the most effective ways of influencing our elected officials’ actions.

With creative planning, you can greatly reduce the cost of attending this event. Community housing will be available, and right now there are several airline fare wars with inexpensive flights to DC You can also approach your local AIDS Service Organization or other community groups and ask for a full or partial scholarship.

Not only is AIDSWATCH crucial in obtaining increased funding, but it is also an excellent way to develop your personal advocacy skills, learn from other advocates, and participate in the political process.
