ADAP/Ryan White
The Ryan White Program provides care, treatment, and support services for low-income people living with HIV in the U.S. and its territories. It is intended to be the program that fills gaps in the health care system and serves those who are unable to access these services through private insurance or other public programs. However, Ryan White has never received enough money to serve all in need, especially in states with significant gaps in health care.
The AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) is a very important part of Ryan White Program funding. ADAP pays for prescription drugs for people who have limited or no coverage for medications and can’t otherwise afford them. The program is managed by states, and most of them also contribute to the funding. The benefits and eligibility requirements vary widely state by state.
